a US film actor known especially for appearing in adventure films and romantic comedies. His films have included Deliverance (1972), Smokey and the Bandit (1977), Switching Channels (1988), Striptease (1996), Boogie Nights (1997) and Mystery, Alaska (1999).
II . Debbie Reynolds
(1932– )
a US actor, singer and dancer known for her energy and bright personality. Her films include Singin’ in the Rain , Tammy and the Bachelor (1957), The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964) and Mother (1996). She was formerly married to the singer Eddie Fisher (1928– ), and their daughter is the actor Carrie Fisher (1956– ).
III . Joshua Reynolds
(1723–92)
an English painter. He was the most successful artist of his time, and painted pictures of many important people, including his friend Samuel Johnson . He was the first President of the Royal Academy (1768) and used his lectures, called the Discourses on Art (1769–91), to express his views on the importance of the ‘grand manner’ in art and the high status of the artist. He was made a knight in 1769.
