Meaning of RIDGEWAY in English

an ancient path in southern England that leads from Avebury along the Berkshire Downs to the Thames at Streatley and then along the Chiltern Hills to Ivinghoe Beacon, a distance of 85 miles/137 kilometres. It was once used as a trade route, and passes several places of importance in ancient times, including the Uffington White Horse . Today the path is popular with ramblers (= people who enjoy walking in the countryside) and looked after as a National Trail .
