the most famous US baseball player in the history of the game. He was born George Herman Ruth, and his popular name was the ‘Bambino’. He played for the New York Yankees (1919–35), and Yankee Stadium is sometimes called ‘the house that Ruth built’. He had 60 home runs in 1927, the most ever for a baseball season until 1961, and 714 during his career, the most until 1974. He was chosen for the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
