Meaning of SACAJAWEA in English

( c. 1784– c. 1884)

a Shoshone Native American who guided Lewis and Clark in 1805 when they investigated the Louisiana Purchase . She was the wife of the French frontiersman Toussaint Charbonneau, who also travelled with them and interpreted for them. Sacajawea was especially helpful when they reached her home region around the Missouri River.
