a British doctor who was found guilty of murdering 15 of his patients, mostly older women, by giving them injections of drugs and was sent to prison for life in 2000. It is thought that he killed at least 215 people altogether over a period of 23 years, making him Britain’s worst serial killer (= a person who murders several people one after the other). He killed himself in prison.
