Meaning of SIMON in English

(1927– )

a US writer of mainly comedy plays, many of which have also appeared as films. He began in the 1950s as a writer for Sid Caesar , an experience he used for Laughter on the 23rd Floor (1993). He has won Tony awards for The Odd Couple (1965), Biloxi Blues (1985) and Lost in Yonkers (1991), which also won a Pulitzer Prize . His 30th play, written at the age of 70, was the serious Proposals (1997). Simon owns the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in New York.
