1. ( in Britain ) a style of 1950s pop music. It was a mixture of jazz and folk music , and usually played by small groups, sometimes on instruments they had made themselves. One of the most popular British skiffle musicians was Lonnie Donegan (1931–2002).
2. ( in the US ) a style of 1920s and 1930s jazz which included elements of blues , ragtime and folk music. It was played on normal instruments and also on instruments made by the players themselves.
