SOHO

a small fashionable area of Manhattan (1) in New York City. SoHo is short for ‘South of Houston’, because it is south of West Houston Street which separates it from Greenwich Village . Many artists live in SoHo in old industrial buildings which have been made modern. They have iron fronts and large windows. The buildings were to be destroyed in the 1960s but were saved when the city made SoHo an official historical district.
