a district of east London, England, east of the City . It used to be famous for its large fruit and vegetable market, which was moved to north-east London in 1991. Spitalfields still has Brick Lane, one of London’s largest flea markets (= markets selling old clothes, books, furniture, etc, usually at low prices). It is also the centre of one of the largest Bangladeshi communities in Britain.
