Meaning of SPODE in English

n [ U ]

pottery and porcelain (= hard, white, shiny material made by baking a type of fine clay) made at the Spode factory in Stoke-on-Trent , England. The factory was established by Josiah Spode (1733–97) in 1770 and soon became famous for the quality of its products, which included willow-pattern plates. The company combined with Wedgwood in the 1960s but the name Spode is still used for its products.
