a Welsh writer. He is known especially for his radio play Under Milk Wood (1953) and for his poems, the best-known of which were published in two collections, Deaths and Entrances (1946) and Collected Poems (1952). His collection of short stories, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog , was published in 1940. Thomas had a reputation for often getting drunk and he died in the US as a result of drinking too much alcohol.
