a US composer of film music. He was born in Russia and moved to the US in 1925. He won Oscars for High Noon , The High and the Mighty (1954) and The Old Man and the Sea (1958). His other films included It’s a Wonderful Life , Friendly Persuasion (1956) and Giant (1956).
