a US writer of popular novels that are intelligent and humorous. She received the National Book Critics Circle award for The Accidental Tourist (1985) and the Pulitzer Prize for Breathing Lessons (1988). Her other books include If Morning Ever Comes (1964), Ladder of Years (1995), A Slipping-Down Life (1997) and Back When We Were Grownups (2001).

II . Wat Tyler

(died 1381)

an English leader of the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381. He brought his army from Kent to London, where he met and talked with King Richard II . During the meeting he was injured in a fight, and he was later murdered.
