a US jazz singer noted for her great range. She sang many songs by ‘Duke’ Ellington and George Gershwin , and she recorded with ‘Dizzy’ Gillespie , ‘Cannonball’ Adderley and many other jazz musicians. Her most successful songs included Mr Wonderful (1956) and Broken-Hearted Melody (1959).
