a US musician and singer with a rough voice, whose songs are often about the more depressing and violent aspects of life in modern cities. He has written music for films, including One from the Heart (1982) and Night on Earth (1992), and has also acted in several films. His albums include Heartattack and Vine (1980) and Asylum Years (1985).
