an English composer. His best-known works include Façade (1923) and the oratorio (= large piece of music for voices and orchestra) Belshazzar’s Feast (1931), both of which have words written by members of the Sitwell family. Walton also wrote operas, pieces for orchestra and music for films, including Henry V (1944) and Hamlet (1948). He was made a knight in 1951.
