a major Hollywood film company established in 1923 by four brothers, Harry Warner (1881-1958), Albert Warner (1884-1967), Sam Warner (1888-1927) and Jack Warner (1892-1978). It produced the first sound film, The Jazz Singer , in 1927. Other Warner Brothers films have included Casablanca , Yankee Doodle Dandy , My Fair Lady , The Exorcist (1973), Superman , Driving Miss Daisy (1989), Batman , Unforgiven (1992), The Fugitive , Fallen (1998), and the Harry Potter films (2001–). The company also makes the television series ER and Friends . Warner Brothers Records produces music by such singers as Madonna and Rod Stewart . Warner Brothers combined with Time, Inc in 1989 to form Time Warner .
