Meaning of WEILL in English

(1900–50)

a US composer, born in Germany. He is best known for Die Dreigroschenoper (in English The Threepenny Opera ) (1928). He moved to the US in 1935 to escape from the Nazis, and wrote the music for several Broadway musical plays, including Knickerbocker Holiday (1938), Lady in the Dark (1941) and Street Scene (1947). His music was used by Woody Allen in Shadows and Fog (1992).
