Meaning of WOOLWORTH in English

( Frank Winfield Woolworth 1852–1919)

a US businessman, the son of a poor farmer, who began the group of five-and-ten shops/stores named after him. The first was opened in 1879 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania , and when he died, there were more than 1 000. The first British Woolworth’s stores opened in 1909.
