a popular website that provides a number of services, including a search engine (= a way of finding information on the Internet), a list of websites arranged in categories and email. It was founded in California in 1994 by David Filo (1967– ) and Jerry Yang (1968– ). The name Yahoo! comes from the first letters of the words ‘Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle’. The founders also chose the name because they liked the concept of the Yahoo described in Gulliver’s Travels .
