SDRAM

Meaning of SDRAM in English

Stands for "Synchronous Dynamic RAM." Older RAM chips, like DRAM and EDO, just weren't fast enough to support the blazing bus speeds of newer computers. So a new type of RAM, called SDRAM, was developed. By allowing two sets of memory addresses to be opened simultaneously, it can be used with bus speeds over 100 MHz without slowing the computer down. In SDRAM, data is alternately retrieved between the two sets of memory. This eliminates the delay caused when, after each data request, one bank of addresses is shut down while another is prepared for reading.
