ANIUS

Meaning of ANIUS in English

[Greek] The son of Apollo and Rhoeo. When Rhoeo became pregnant, her father had her placed in a chest and cast into the sea. She landed on the island of Delos where she gave birth to Anius. He became Apollo's priest on the island of Delos, which was sacred to Apollo. Anius offered hospitality to Aeneas and his companions when they passed his island on their journey. Anius became the father of three daughters, Oeno, Spermo and Elais (wine, grain seed and oil, in that order) who were granted the power to bring these three crops to fruition.
