ATAI

[African] A goddess of the Efik (Nigeria), wife of Abassi. She convinced her husband to allow two humans to settle on the Earth provided they did not procreate and work, so that they would not exceed Abassi in wisdom. When the humans eventually broke Atai's rule, she killed them both.
