[Native American] Bakbakwalanooksiwae is the primary figure in the Kwakiutl Hamatsa ceremony. His name means "Great Cannibal at the North End of the Earth." He devours initiates, who become cultureless, languageless, and songless in his belly before they are transformed by the ritual.
