BOSATSU

[Japanese] The Japanese form of the Sanskrit bodhisattva, a manifestation of the Buddha in the past, present or future. Instead of entering nirvana, thus escaping the burden of individual existence, a bodhisattva has decided to remain on earth for the benefit of humanity.
