[Egyptian] Egyptian ram-god of the underworld and ferryman of the dead. In the Pyramid Texts Cherti was said to be a threat to the pharaoh, who had to be defended by Re himself. However, as an earth-god Cherti also acts as a guardian of the pharaoh's tomb. The main center of Cherti's cult was at Letopolis, north-west of Memphis. He was depicted as a man with the head of a ram, or as a ram. His name means "Lower One".
