ELPENOR

[Greek heroic] The friend of Odysseus. While drunk he fell from the roof of Circe's palace and broke his neck. On a pelike (Attica, ca. 440 BCE) the encounter between Odysseus and Elpenor's shade can be seen. Elpenor is slowly climbing the rocks that lead out of the underworld.
