[Japanese] The Japanese name for all that is incomprehensible for humans, especially in nature, such as the celestial bodies, seas, mountains, animals, and plants, but they may also be ancestral spirits. The kami, "the superior ones", are often attributed divine powers and are worshipped as gods. There have been counted some eight million kami, which are divided in the heavenly kami, the Amatsu-Kami, and the earthly kami, the Kunitsu-Kami.
