KARL

Meaning of KARL in English

[Norse] On his second journey, the god Rig (Heimdall) came upon a well-maintained house, owned by an artisan and farmer. The man and woman who lived there were Afi and Amma, Grandfather and Grandmother. They offered him a decent meal and let him sleep between them in their bed. Nine months later, Amma gave birth to a son, whom they named Karl ("churl"). Afi assumed that the child was his son but Karl was in fact the son of Rig. Karl married Snör, and they had twelve sons and ten daughters. Their descendants formed the race of peasants. (See also: Thrall and Jarl.)
