LOGRES

[Arthurian] The portion of Britain now called England when it was still inhabited by Celts and usually referring vaguely to Arthur's kingdom. Often the setting for adventures and romances like Chretien de Troyes' Lancelot and Perceval. Logres also appears in the Vulgate Cycle. The name comes from the Welsh Lloegyr which Geoffrey of Monmouth turns into "Loegria" which in turn mutates into "Logres." "England" is not an accurate term in the strictest Arthurian sense. The name "Angle-land" from which England derives was a product of the Anglo-Saxon invasions that was just beginning during Arthur's supposed lifetime. However, Malory uses it because he is from a later time.
