MEGAREUS

[Greek heroic] Megareus was a king from Onchestus, Boeotia, and father of Hippomenes (who defeated Atalanta in a footrace). During the campaign of the Seven Against Thebes, he sacrificed his own life because Tiresias prophesied that Thebes would triumph if one of them would voluntarily give his life.
