NDAUTHINA

Meaning of NDAUTHINA in English

[Polynesian] The Fijian god of fishermen and seafarers. His name means 'the torch-bearer', a vital function for fishing at night. According to legend, when he was a little child his mother tied lighted reeds upon his head. Hooded with a flaming brazier he has roamed the reefs by night ever since. Ndauthina is said to wander around at night seducing women (making him the patron of adulterers) and causing mischief.
