PLANCTAE

Meaning of PLANCTAE in English

[Greek heroic] The Planctae, or Wandering Rocks, were a group of craggy rocks through which the sea boomed and surged with uncontrolled fury; it is unclear why they were called "wandering." The Argo, favored by Hera and guided by Thetis and the Nereids, was the only ship to navigate them successfully. The only alternative to passing through the Planctae was to pass between the twin hazards of Scylla and Charybdis.
