SATET

[Egyptian] Satet is the Egyptian goddesss of inundation (the yearly flooding of the Nile) and fertility. She was also connected to the star "Sept." The beginning of the flood season was when the star returned to the night sky. Her name comes from the root "sat" which means to shoot, to eject, and to throw. Satet was the pricipal female counterpart of Khnemu. She was worshipped with him at Elephantine (Abu). Her sister was the goddess, Anquet. The island of Sahal, two miles south of Elephantine was the center of her worship. Her temple at Elephantine was one of the principal holy places in Egypt.
