SWIZA

Meaning of SWIZA in English

[Folklore] Swiza is an old woman with deer's antlers wearing fur of a wolf. She was usually seen near the city of Kasperske Hory in Böhmerwald/Sumava, a mountain range between Austria, Bavaria and Bohemia, before a plague or an other disaster came. She has lived there since pagan times and nobody knew who she was, from where she came and why is she was here. There is also a story about a man from Zdanov village, who met her. When he wanted to escape, she ordered him to worship her. The man was a christian and did not want to do so, so she turned him to stone.
