References to federally owned lands are defined as follows: (1) Federal: All classes of land owned by the federal government, which includes Public Domain (Lands), withdrawn and acquired federal lands; (2) Acquired: Lands acquired by the federal government through purchase, condemnation, or gift; (3) Withdrawn: Federal lands for which formal withdrawal action has been taken which restricts the disposition of specific public lands and which holds them for specific public purposes; also, public lands which have been dedicated to public purposes; (4) National Forest: Federal lands which have been designated by executive order or statute as national forests or purchase units, and other lands under the administration of the Forest Service, including experimental areas and Bankhead-Jones Title III lands; and (5) Public Domain: Original public lands which have never left federal ownership.
