< operating system > A utility program to remove another application program from a computer's disks.

Most commonly found on IBM PCs , as applications tend to leave files in various places on the hard disc , so special software is required to tidy up after them.

Ken Spreitzer ken@maximized.com claims to have written the original PC program called "UnInstaller", first licensed to MicroHelp and now (Feb 1998) sold by CyberMedia .
