O ptical C haracter R ecognition. A technology enabling computers to convert printed text into actual data, rather than just a graphic image. You may have OCR software included with your scanner so that you can scan a document in and then use the OCR software to convert this into a word processor document; the results can be a little unpredictable based on the quality of the printed document.
