TRUNCATE

This is where a number of characters are eliminated from the left or right of a string. For example the word GLOSSARY when truncated to a 5 character string becomes GLOSS. For numbers it is more common to truncate the left most characters. For example 00012345 when truncated to 5 digits becomes 12345. Truncation is very common in computer programming and the results are seen in many Application programs .
