Application Service Provider; rather than purchase, install, and configure software from a vendor you can essentially "rent" it with all the details handled by a third party. ASPs are a growing, nascent industry designed to enable businesses to outsource the hosting of applications such as databases, Web services, payroll services, etc. They are also considered the natural evolution of the Internet Service Provider, or ISP.
