A standard of image compression developed especially for use on the internet.Many of the images you see embedded into web pages are GIFs,but sometimes,especially in art or photographic Websites,you can clik on the image to bring up a higher resolution(larger) JPEG version of the same image.It is particularly well suited to 3D or VRML images where there is a continuous range of colors or shades.JPEG files use a .jpg or less commonly, .jpeg or .jpe , .jfif extentions.
