WORKSTATION

Meaning of WORKSTATION in English

A networked personal computing device with more power than a traditional PC or Mac, although the term "workstation" is now used somewhat loosely to describe any site performing complex tasks such as an Amiga video workstation, a Mac AV workstation, a CD-ROM recording workstation, a videodisc recording workstation, a desktop publishing workstation, etc. Typically, a "workstation" has operating systems such as Unix, OS/2, or Windows 2000 that are capable of running several tasks (multitasking) at the same time. It has several megabytes of memory and a large, high-resolution display. Examples are SUN workstations and Digital DEC stations.
