Founder and principal inventor of Ethernet. While at Harvard, graduate student Bob Metcalfe's dissertation on "Packet Networks" described the technology we know today as Ethernet. He patented the technology in 1977 and in 1981 founded 3Com Corporation. Today he is Vice President of Technology for IDG.
