SYNCHRONOUS

The term synchronous means occurring at regular intervals. It is usually used to describe communications in which data can be transmitted in a steady stream rather than intermittently. For example, if a telephone conversation was synchronous, each party would be required to wait a specified interval before speaking. Communication within a computer, is usually synchronous and is governed by the microprocessor clock.
