(1939–) a Canadian writer of short stories, poems, and ↑ novel s , usually about the lives and relationships of women. Her ↑ novel s include The Handmaid's Tale (1986), Cat's Eye (1989), and Alias Grace (1996). She won the Booker Prize for The Blind Assassin in 2000.
