Ba ‧ ez, Joan /ˈbaɪez/ BrE AmE
(1941–) an American ↑ folk singer who was especially popular in the 1960s when she opposed the Vietnam War and supported the ↑ civil rights movement in the US. She is known especially for singing the song We Shall Overcome which is still sung on protest marches and at political meetings.
