(1883–1971) a French fashion designer, who started the fashion company Chanel, and who is also known for her perfumes such as Chanel No. 5. Her clothes designs had a great influence on 20th century fashion, and she is known especially for a simple type of women's suit and for the LITTLE BLACK DRESS , which she invented.
