Kel ‧ man, James /ˈkelmən/ BrE AmE

(1946–) a Scottish writer whose novel How Late It Was, How Late won the Booker Prize in 1994. Like many of Kelman's books, it is set in the poor areas of Glasgow and the characters live a hard and sometimes violent life. A lot of the book is written in a Scottish ↑ dialect , which is difficult for many people to understand.
