Lee Kuan Yew /ˌliː kwɑːn ˈjuː/ BrE AmE
(1923–) a Singaporean politician who was Prime Minister from 1959 to 1990. Under Lee, Singapore became a country with a very successful economy and a strong ↑ welfare state . He encouraged traditional rules of behaviour through strict punishments.
