(1917–) an English singer who was very popular during World War II. She was known as the ‘Forces’ Sweetheart’, and entertained soldiers with songs such as We’ll Meet Again and White Cliffs of Dover.
II. Lynn, Lo ‧ ret ‧ ta /ləˈretə/ BrE AmE
(1935–) a US ↑ country and western singer. A film made about her life was called Coal Miner's Daughter (1980), which was also the title of one of her songs.
